Figure 8 Puffer Fish

Hello,
I recently bought a "Figure 8 Puffer" And he is about 3 inch's.
I am seeking out any infomation on this lil guy so that I can make
his life a happy one with me I am very curious on their
eating habits, what they life to eat, and what feeder fish are best
to give them, also any on their Habitats, How they like to live, things
they like in their tanks, things like that, I am currently seeking out
any infomation online but any information anyone can give me would
be greatly appriecated. Thank you for you time.

There's bags of information on this species in this part of the forum, so do use the search tool. Look up Tetraodon biocellatus as well as "figure-8 puffer".

In any case, their diet is simple enough: invertebrates of various types. Insect larvae, snails, krill, bloodworms, mysids, whatever. Not feeder fish. Some plant matter is eaten in the wild, and you may want to offer algae wafers and tinned peas periodically.

Like all puffers, the main thing to remember is that they've evolved to "explore" three dimensional habitats. So it doesn't matter how you arrange the decoration in the tank, just make sure there's lots of it. Plastic plants, rocks, bogwood, seashells, ceramic ornaments. Use your imagination. The "taller" the decoration (in the sense of running towards the top of the tank, not just sideways along the substrate) the better.

Also provide lots of water movement.

My book contains a whole big chapter on puffers, and if you can buy or borrow a copy, so much the better. It covers all the basis as well as detailed stuff on what each species wants.

I love those little puffers. I have just lost mine, unexplained death I am afraid. One thing you must watch is their teeth, they need crunchy food or they get too long

hi,i have also 1 of these puffers and they are great caracters,but mine will only eat bloodworm,he also is the boss of my tank,he bullys all the other fish when it comes to feeding time,lol,but at the mo im a little worried as whitespot has raised its ugly head and my puffer has a dose,i hope he makes it trough this

whie spot is easy to beat just turn up the temp and play meds as for the feeding try mixing his blood worms with other foods so he gets used to them and aggression is part of every puffers life so they are best kept to a species tank or alone
