Hi guys, yesterday i bought 2 large oscars for my fish tank, with them i also bought a large spotted plec, i have noticed that over the last day or so the oscars have been fighting each other, this involves opening their mouth wide and expanding their gills to look larger, they then shoot to each other but revrse just beofre they hit, when i woke up this morning the larger one has large rips going down both of its pectoral fins, it also has some of its scales hanging off, at the moment i am trying to figure out a way to separate them as they are fighting,
Thanks,
Bye

hey
how big are they ?
how big is the tank they are kept in ?
did you by them from the same place and was they in the same tank together in the shop ?

Hi they are about 7 inches each and they were kept in the same tank in the shop, the tank I keep them in is about 4 feet long 3 feet tall and 2 feet deep,
Thanks,
Bye

They just don't like each other. There's not much you can do about that. Remove the one that's getting murdered, and just keep the other. Your tank is big enough for 1 oscar, but 2 is cutting it unless they're a mated pair, as your tank is a tall variation rather than a long. Chances are they didn't fight at the pet store because at the pet store the fish are often too stressed to care about liking or disliking each other.

Keeping oscars with other fish is a chore, they're the ones who pick their tank mates, not you. And if they don't like their tank mates, there's not a thing you can do to make them like em.

I only got them yesterday, i called the guy at the shop and he said it was a settling in period, apparently they are very sulky in the first few days of being moved, should I take the smaller one back before Christmas ?

if one of the oscars is missing scales and getting torn up, there's more to it than just settling. one really really doesn't like the other.
