I have two powder blue gouramis and three blue skirt tetras in a 10 gallon tall (saltwater?) fish tank. the slightly bigger one always chases and bites after the other one. so, i bought a breeder net to separate it. aka imprisoned it to punish it. it was still "chasing" the other one around even though it's in the breeder already... i released it out for a couple days. it got a "lil nicer".

My question:
i just got a 30 gallon tank started for about 5 days. the water condition is fine when i tested it at Petsmart. so i moved my three blue skirt tetras and the aggresive gourami into the tank to cycle it. i was wondering if. the gourami is going to be fine w/ ANGEL fish? cause i dont know where else can i keep the aggresive one.

btw, my 10 gallon tank is all blue fish w/ blue gravel. i love blue. hehe

thank you guys for suggestion and comments. i really appreciate your help! ^^

Welcome to the forums :)

Remove the gourami from that tank immediately!
Dwarf gouramies should never be used for cycling and are often very prone to disease. Putting it in a breeder net is also a bad idea as this is extremely stressful and you cannot 'punish' a fish.
Besides - the problem isn't the fish - 10 gallons is too small for two male dwarf gouramies to both establish a territory in without 'arguing' over who's boss. You need to return one of the two fish to your LFS ASAP and certainly never use either for cycling.
You cannot keep it with angels in a 30 gallon either - it's just too small for both species to co-exist peaceful. Remember both angels and dwarfs are territorial in the mid to upper water layers so they compete for space.

Just a little note on angels - they cannot be sexed when young but will eventualy pair up and, when they breed, they are just as aggressive as any other cichlid. I strongly urge you to go ask about angels in the new worls cichlids section and read up on them thoroughly before you buy them. They look like easy, peaceful fish but they are a little more of a handful than that. Angels are typicaly bought in groups of 6 and later 4 are removed when 2 have formed a pair. A 30 gallon realy isn't large enough for more than a single adult pair TBH.

Personaly I'd make use of the new tank to house one of the dwarf gouramies (after the tetras cycle it) as your priority should be the fish you already own. You could put in a couple of females as well and some corydoras catfish and some male platies - makes for a peaceful, colorful, active tank.

You also need to increase the number of tetras you have (after cycling) as they should be in groups of at least 6. Actualy, black skirts are notorious fin nippers and shouldn't be kept with angels anyway. 'Blue' skirts are dyed - the blue is not natural. Go to the hybrid section of this forum and look at the pinned articles.

Thank you very much.

I've heard that angels r pretty aggressive fish. what am i going to do with the gouramis for right now then? cause if i dont put it in the new tank, i'll have to put two back into my old 10 gal tank again (it's only been up for a month as well). i think i bought fish too soon. and i bought a puffer, too for some dumb reasons. now i keep that puffer in the breeder cause it's really small and heard to be aggressive and fin nipper. do u think gourami is going to do well with fancy guppies?? or they r going after the guppies??

how far into the cycle is your other tank?

you're right, buying the puffer was a dumb idea! hehe. and keeping him in a breeding net is very much unsuitable. i'd take him back until you've got your current tanks and stock sorted out.

puffers are generally not community fish, and highly aggressive. they need species tanks ideally.

if i were you i'd take one of the male gourami's back to the shop as well as the puffer. the other will then calm down.

NO MORE FISH! until your tanks are sorted.

I agree completely. Forget about the guppies - it's not the time to be adding new fish. Also, return the puffer. You can't keep it unless you get another tank.

I also think you should return one dwarf gourami as putting it in a breeder trap is not an option, returning it to the 10 is not an option and keeping it in the uncycled tank will kill it.

The guppies, BTW, would be fine with a dwarf in the bigger tank if that's what you're considering - but, honestly, forget about that right now and sort your current fish out before you do anything.

Read the links in my signature about cycling and fishless cycling. It's too late to do a fishless cycle but you need to understand the process better. Also, never take advice from LFSs - especialy not big chain stores like Petsmart. ;)
