1)what are? (i know they are chemical but what ones are what)
KNO3
KH2PO4
K2SO4

2)in the summer im going on holiday for just under 3 weeks (some one will be coming in to feed the fish every other day) so what do i do? lose two of the lights so it reduces iot to 1 wpg and leave the co2 on?

3)my tank isnt going to be heavily planted but i will be growing a carpet and 4/5 others plants (hopefully will spread) should i still dose the same as in the sticky?

4)if i pre mix them can i mix all the mixtures together so it keeps them in the same tun/pot (except the trace)
so once i mix the correct amount of K2SO4 can i put it in the same storage jug as KNO3
KH2PO4

thanks in advance
chris

KNO3 - Potassium Nitrate (K)
K2SO4 - Potassium Sulphate (N)
KH2PO4 - Mono Potassium Phosphate (P)

Put them all on a timer...

Depends on lighting, my advice is plant heavy from the start or the algae will be a' comin (check my journal in my sig!!)

Yup, although you may want to keep them separate in-case you need to increase/decrease dosage of 1 nutrient!

HTH :good:

Sophos matey. you got them wrong

KNO3 - Potassium Nitrate (K & N)
K2SO4 - Potassium Sulphate (K)
KH2PO4 - Potassium Phosphate (K & P)

The chemical names i.e. KN03 means 1 x K (potassium) 1 x N (Nitrate) 3 x O (Oxygen and so forth)
N = Nitrate
P = Phoshate
K = Potassium
Hence NPK which is the same as outdoor plant nutrients

I work for J Arthur Bowers so I see this **** all the time.

I would reduce your lighting if you are not going to be able to dose whilst on hols.

If you want to dose then get a small container for each day you are away and put in each day the solution required and then mark each container up.

like 4 small bottles
Mon - Weds - Fri (put the solution in these)
Tues - Thurs - Sat (put the trace in these)

Personally if you are going away for more than a week and unless your tank sitter is a good enthusiastic person then the water change isnt going to happen, the doses arent going to be done pre lights and personally I would just reduce lighting. stop dosing go on holiday and then slowly start it up again for short photoperiod 6 hours up to 10 or 12 (whichever you luse) after 2 weeks.

Finally. You are gonna have big problems with just a few plants in ther unless the carpet is fully covering from the start!!

I test my water every 2nd day for phosphate and nitrate and topped up as needed. My dosing changes accordingly but the level in the tank remains pretty much the same.

thanks every one

i will not be dosing while on holiday as the waterchanges wont be made

but i might put some trace (i believe thats simular to off the shelf products) in a little container for my aunt to put in once a week

my lighting is on timers so lighting wont be a problem (with on/off etc)

i was hoping my carpet would pick up fast(ish).

could you tell me roughly how many pots(from tropica) i should get to help stop algea?(or is it impossible?)

at the moment the 4 plants are fairly easy/fast growing (1.fast 2.fast3.medium4slow (although it seems to spread fast)
(1.easy2.v easy3.easy4.diffcult (again spreads fast)

i will be buying at least anther 6 for the carpet and another 1 plant

thanks again

v helpfull

i am going to order the remaining plants and ferts from AE

so i need

KNO3
KH2PO4
K2SO4
and trace
??

thanks chris

how long would 250g (of each fert last) last on a 45 gallons tank roughly?
thanks
