HI,
I want a tank, in which i can grow some plants, not much as my main focus is on fishes. I am having 4X2X2 size new tank. I want to keep large fishes(not the barrowing) or digger fishes like Mbunas. I will go with the Co2 DIY. Kindly suggest the plants and large fishes(Large means 4 to 10 inch) also. No the gold fish
please please help me on this i am sort of confused

Ok you need to slow down a bit :) Im sure your eager to get all the answers but figuring out a good stocking isnt a split second decision :p You say you like mbuna (malawi cichlids), well unfortunatly if its a planted tank your after there not best suited :) So you'll want to look into south american cichlids. Take a look in the SA cichlid section, use google etc and try to pick a few that seem suitable.

a 4x2x2ft tank isn't really big enough to house fish that get to 10inches. If the fish don't swim much they would be ok but if they move around a bit then you want a bigger tank. 6 inch fish would be fine in the tank.
The bigger the fish get the fewer you can have in the tank.

for plants you could get some swordplants and Vallis
fish perhaps severums, festivums, angelfish, uarus or discus, rainbowfish, filament & spanner barbs, pictus & bristlenose catfish.

4ft (48") is plenty for a 10" fish, you say that then you reccomend a severum?

try to go with these easy and strong plants:

anubias
java fern
windelov fern
vallis
onion plant
amazon swords

Thanks guys .

Here is what I am approaching to

i will use garden soil 1" thick on top of it 2" golden sand topping. With CO2 DIY. And will start of with these plants.
Also the lighting
