So the new pair of festivums I got a few days ago seem to go a little pale at night, I have never kept cichlids before so I just wanted to know if this was normal. They don't look sickly or anything but their flag seems to fade towards the back and their hues fade to a more silver color? Is this because they're resting?
I know they can change coloration when stressed or spawning but just wanted to know if this was something to be worried about. They color right back up in the morning and eat like pigs and are fairly active too. Thanks in advance

A lot of fish I have kept color down at lights out, both freshwater and marine fish do it and as long as they act healthy there shouldn't be an issue.

hell some fish even hardcore sleep, as in, if I wake up my clownfish unexpectedly for about 10 or so minutes they essentially act drunk, not that I mind its the only way to catch them haha.

Good to know, I'm always a bit overly nervous when I get new fish I think. Lol I imagine seeing a drowsy clown fishwould be pretty amusing.

Most of my cichlids get a bit of a shock when the lights come on, we have just moved house and the room they are in now is brighter than the last place so its a less of a shock but you do notice it.

If you ever get up in the night for a drink and turn the room lights on in the room the fish are in it is terrifying everything looks dead....
