I've had planted tanks for ages, they survive (mostly) but they've never flourished. I'm considering adding ferts but don't really know where to start.

What UK product is reasonably priced, will do the job but doesn't need to be added daily? Anything?

And can I expect an algae bloom following adding ferts.

well we need to know:

lighting
tank size
Plants
CO2?

an imbalance or low levels of nutrients causes algae, not an overdose.

All fertilisers dont need to be added daily, it is just that it is better too.

65L tank, by a window with blinds (reasonable amount of light comes through) and a cheap and cheerful starter unit - don't know what bulbs as it all came with the tank. And no CO2.

As for plants - Java Fern and I think its called Amazon sword are the only ones I know - plant knowledge is next to zero.
