i attempted to breed my bettas. I have done everything i should have done. Conditioned them and also teased the male by putting the female in a few times a day (in a jar) Things went really well when i finally released the female. Its the furthest i have every got with breeding. The male chased her under the nest and they both seemed really at ease. After watching them for a few hours nothing happened, so i left them to it overnight. when i got up this morning, the female had the male pinned a corner and wouldnt let him move. Every move he made the female would beat him and the male would cower in the corner. is this normal or are they really not compatible. Please can anyone help as im really confused!!!! :( :dunno:

No, it is not normal. I had a male and female who did not breed, but they just stayed on opposite sides of the tank.

You sure your female is a she?

Depending on how bad she's beat him up, I'd give him a lot more than a few days, unless you don't have a problem losing your male. Females can kill just as easily as males. Let them both recover fully before you even think about pairing them again.

i have separated them into breeding traps to let them recover from their ordeal (bless them !!!!!) i am now starting again with a different pair so hopefully better luck this time. Thanks for everyones help anyway. I learn something new everytime i come on the site and i do appreciate it. cheers all

All we can keep doing is to try an learn. No matter how much we read, there always seems to be something you can't learn from reading. I am hoping to give breeding a second try myself :D

If that is a female, I will forget it to breed again. Give a plakat also she will not going to breed but fight. My two cents is get another new female and start all over again. Wasting time to invest that fierce female. She is a *****. LOL :p
