Hi everyone,

i have 4 male guppies and was thinking of getting 6 females to keep them company, will this be enough to ensure the females dont get too stressed or will i have to get more?

i want to keep a community tank with different species in, but am worried that if i get 2-3 females to every male that i wont have room for anything else (20 uk gallon tank).

Also it'll mean lots and lots of fry, which i wont have room for and would like to take back to the LFS when they are old enough

let me know what you think

Hiya, I was told to get about 3 Females to every 1 male, hope this helps. The more females the better but you will probably find that you will end up with lots of babies aswell, which is really cool. Good Luck

The Females will be harassed unless you have a ratio: 1 male to every 2-3 females. If you want guppies and dont want to fill your tank to satisfy you current males, return 3 of them and see if you can get a trade for three females. This will slow down your fry production and if you have other species(particularly angels) or just the parents in the tank they will happily eat them to thin down numbers. Any excess would be happily taken as a don gratuit or even paid for be a LFS.

Hope this helps.
