I have just noticed my female swordtails darting around the tank really fast and then they hide away in the plants.

Could this be a sign that they are about to produce offspring.

I have seen them act like this sometime before but can't remember if they produced young after it

Has anybody else experienced this?

I have not fed them flake for two days but as in my last post they are still producing white crumbly waste which I think is very odd but have still no Idea why.

Just wondering how do you tell M from F on a swordtail?

The tail on the male will grow into a large spike like a sword as it matures, some can grow as long as a few inches.

Dan: yes that would be a male, females will be larger and more round also.
Bob: what are your water stats?

Lilf my stats seem okay I test quite regular with the Freshwater master test kit

PH- 7
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 40ppm.

I don't understand the white waste.

They seemed to have calmed down a bit last night but when i looked at them this morning they were darting about so fast then hiding in the plants seems so strange.

If i was you i would post this in the emergency section, if its disease related, then they will give you the answers in there :)
