i have a 55 gal. tank with swords init, they breed fine, actually to well. the problem is only the male sword babies seem to be living once they get past about an inch in size . what could be the problem?

How big is your tank? What are the water parameters? How long have you had the tank?

its actually my sisters tank, i know its a 55 gallon rectangular tank and she has had it set up at this location for at least 5 years. she has 3 dominant males that are keeping her mature females busy having babies, but only the males are surviving. i suggested moving the males to another tank to see if that helped.
