Well just a quicky but I have 2 swordtails(use to have 3), 1 male, 1 female. My female that I have left is healthy but she is not as active as she use to be, but my main question is should I get at least one more female? I have a 30gal with 4 neons, 2 swords, 2 pearl G's, 4 loachs, and 5 danios. I'm trying to see if I can go to the store today to replace 2 neons and maybe a female sword.

it's preferable to keep a group of females for each male. This means the females don't get continually harrased by the male. They can have a rest while he chases one of the others.

If you are having fish deaths, or the fish aren't looking 100% yuo should not buy any new fish for at least a couple of weeks.

My other sword died a week ago do to fin rought, impacted, and stress do to the stores lack or med and I first didnt know what was happening until later. One thing to is my male dosnt ever harass her for some reason but I'll look into getting 1 or 2 more next time I go to the store.

I have no problem with one to one sword ratios. I have a 3 to 3 sword ratio in a ten gallon. Supposedly the males would fight and harrass the females, but, I have had them together for over a month. The females aren't pregnant and the males interact peacefully.

i started out with 2 males and they got along fine. then i put in a female and they were fine until one day the bigger male figured out the new was a girl and he harrassed the smaller so much i had to put the smaller one in my other tank. and today the female gave birth to 15 babies(so far). so i think 2 females to 1 male would work. just not the other way around.
