Hi everyone I am new here and would like to ask some questions about my Platies. My female is chasing off the male and i dont know why. The male when approaching her is fanning out his fins but she chases him off they have already mated once but at the time i never noticed them really, but since the female had 5 fry and they are about 11/2 month old and I was also wondering when they are old enough to mate. It looks like they are 3 females and 2 males. would someone help me with my questions please.

Sounds like typical breeding behavior really. She may be ready to drop again...is she heavy? Sometimes the girls will get a bit testy when it comes time to birth. Your fry, if able to be sexed, are able to breed.

Hi mrstiredoc225 :)

Welcome to the forum! :hi:

I'm going to move your thread over to the Livebearers section. You should get more responses there than in the more general Tropical Discussion. :D

My females often get like this when breeding, mainly due to the fact they are being harrased by the male. The fry will be able to mate as soon as they are able to be sexed as nosoup4you said.

You should be able to tell wether they have mated soon when the female gets rounder.

She is not big yet but i have noticed she is starting to get a blackened spot near her anal area. A few of the little ones look like they are getting fatter. Thanks for the help I will keep everyone posted.

Well she is probably pregnant telling by her description. Also if some of your fry are fat, they are most likely eating a lot or pregnant. I had 3 baby fry that were only about 3 months old when I noticed all 3 were pregnant!
