HI

I am trying to get my female to spawn, introduced a couple of times and now she is fat! I put her in the breeding grounds for 3 hours now, he flirts, dances, then nips. How long can this go on? Her tail is looking just a tad bit ragged now. She does curl up a little in the corner when he approaches her, but then nothing! Is this how it's supposed to go? She has got a really fat belly now, huge, is this going to happen soon, and should I take her out soon, or how long should I leave her in with him? Thanks for your help! email me or message me if you would please! Thanks again! Jen and Hannah

it can go from a couple hours to days. Don't worry if her tail is a bit ragged. If her gets over the limit aggressive than take her out.

Can I keep her in there overnight then? Or, at night, should I be taking her out? Also, I read that I could put in a very minute of salt, sea salt, is this true?

I kept my girl in over night. But that is one you would have to make yourself. If you feel he can stay with her over night than let it be. Or if you feel he might really hurt her than take her out.

I just added a question about the sea salt, do you think this would help things along also? I read a very minute of sea salt (the kind we eat) might help, is this true do you think?

I wouldn't recommend keeping her in overnight. If the male is being aggressive then the chances are he will continue to attack her and you will not be there to keep an eye on things.
Has your male built a bubblenest at all?

Make sure you have lots of plants so your girl can escape when she wants too.

How did you condition your pair? Did the male start his nest before she was released into the tank? It takes time. Sometimes up to a week. If you are nervous you can put her in a jar inside the tank at night. She should have a couple plants on opposite end of bubblenest to hide in...but not too many. The male will get frustrated if he has to hunt too hard to find her. As long as there is no heavy damage, I think you're doing ok. Nipping and chasing are just a part of betta breeding.

i kept them together over night and the spawned. If you do though make sure she has enough cover to hide well.My female kept darting straight into the java moss lol.
