Hi i just wanted some advice on what happened to my female platy. She has been looking very fat for a little while and swimming around just fine, i thought she was pregnant any way when i woke up this morning she was floating dead at the top of the tank. She had a big hole where her fat belly was and was empty like she had popped. There is no sign of the other fish having a go at eating her.

Any ideas?

perhaps the other fish all swarmed her in a feeding frenzy whilhst she was giving birth and got a bit carried away and damaged her? i dunno just trying to think of some suggestions?

Sorry to hear about that mate, its horrible when any fish dies and platys are one of my favourites. I dont really know what has happened to her, i have never heard of anything like that. It could have been some sort of tumor or something. I am really sorry though.GRJ

I've had her about 3-4 months. Thanks for you suggestions guys i'll just keep an eye on my other female. I don't think it would have been a frenzy as my fish are well fed and never go mad even at feeding time but then you never can tell.

Thanks again
