I was just woke up by a "splashing" noise in my tank. Thinking that there was a problem with the filter or something, I flipped the tank's light on (oops) -- well this scared my female platy and she swam across the tank at top-speed and kind of jumped enough to make another "splash", then she swam back to the other side of the tank (into the plants)

Now she's just hanging out in there TREMBLING and her fins are flapping like crazy. (The rest of my fish seem fine.) However, that's when I noticed one little fry near the bottom of the tank.

The first time she gave birth, I wasn't home so I didn't get to see her -- but is this at ALL normal? I'm worried she's having some sort of problem and I don't know what I can do to help her. I could move her to another tank, but I would think this would put even more stress on her (I can't imagine even attempting to catch her in a net right now anyway).

So I just shut off the tank light because I figured this would stress her less for now. Anyone have any insights?? Her last batch of fry was just born on 8/22 -- so not even a month later and there's more on the way. I feel so bad for her. :(

She COULD have a stuck fry. But birth in the fish world is about the same as in our world. It is very stressfull on the mommy fish. I would think keeping her less stressed is the best thing to do. But with the soon birth she could be having premmy fry also. I really can't say that I have seen what your seeing with my platies. But all fish give birth a little different.

Thanks for the advice. :)

Thankfully she seems to have settle down now (from what I can tell, peering in the tank in near-darkness). So hopefully she'll be okay!

How is she this morning Mandi? Anymore fry?

My guppies do this sometimes. They seem to twitch and fly across the tank at times.
