Hi i was wondering if you could reccommend any treatment for mouthrot, duon't know how she got it, may tis from the male *frowns* i am using a treatment already but it has only improved the mouthrot a little bit. :(

Where do you live (country I mean)? I might be able to suggest a specific brand.

Mouthrot can usualy be treated with an anti-'fungus' and finrot med. It is bacterial and responds well to a lowering of temperature. If your current temp. is above 76 deg F, lower it (very gradualy). This slows the rate at which the bacteria divide - giving the medication and fish the chance to fight it.

i live in manchester, i do have a finrot n mouthrot treatment, i can confirm that the moss like appearence around her mouth has gone, she jus has a lump on her head and a slight lump on her side, she is in a baggie in the same tank as the other gourami so that eh doesn't kill her when i re-introduce her again, the baggie has handles, same as ones they use to bag goldfish with @ the fair. she's geting there slowly just hope she doesn't die now :(

Putting her in a bag is going to stress her unecessarily. Is there no where else she can go? If you have a large bowl/vase/plastic container, you can transfer some old tank water, dechlorinated tap water and lots of gravel from the established tank and she should be ok in there (make sure the room she's in stays relatively warm). You also need to consider that a bag doesn't allow you to calculate volumes effectively and also means there is no water circulation - all very bad things when you are trying to treat - especialy a bacterial infection.

You didn't mention any lumps before - this is bacterial and needs antibiotic treatments. I've used interpet's treatment number 8 (anti-fungus & finrot) for columnaris and their anti-internal bacteria treatment is also effective for the sorts of 'lumps' you are describing (if tthe mouth 'fungus' is gone, you may as well treat with the antibiotic now).

Good news she's all better now and happy to be back with her man, she has got a lil bit of scar tissue but that will grow out eventually. As for the bag that was temporary i changed it for a large tub and she lived there for around a week. I'm hoping the mouthrot doesn't come back again.
