it is very very odd...my female who i have had 4 about a week is absolutey huge...WHY? she hasn't eaten in 3 days. She is in my 20 gallon with no male. I had the male in there the 1st day to perk her up. i took him out later that night. is this some kind of sickness? NEED REPLIES!!

mm... can't tell for sure, but there's a good chance she's just really eggy. As long as she's active, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you don't breed her, the eggs will be absorbed back into her body. It's pretty common :)

o ok good...shes a veiltail and dont need anymore of those...she is not active at all and is breathing very heavily at the top of the water

Yea dont worry, I would only worry if she starts acting really strange or sickly.

Edit: Well I guess that would be strange. Dont know what to tell you. Sorry

well, if she isn't active, then she is probably unwell. check your water parameters and make sure all is well. have you not fed her in three days, or is she refusing to eat? She may be constipated, which can be helped by feeding some pea if she will take it. is she showing any signs of dropsy (pineconing of the scales)? It could be an internal infection of some sort, in which case i believe you want a broad spectrum antibiotic, but i'm not entirely certain, or she may be retaining fluid for some reason and just need a salt bath.

best of luck

actually es...she is pineconing...that can't be good im guessin what should i do 2 treat her?

well, you can do a search for dropsy which will tell you more than I know about it. You can start with this site, http://www.mushi.petfish.net/dropsy.html

dropsy is never good news, but it can be cured. Most sites don't have a whole whole lot of informaion, but they seem to largely agree with clean clean water, salt baths, and maracyn 1 AND 2, or tetracyclin.

yea that what is she has:( it says chances of survival are very low  so i guess there is really nothing i can do...i guess if she passes away i'll just have to get a new one....but it will be nothing like her so i geuess this is goodbye :byebye: :rip:

if you aren't going to treat her, try some salt and very very clean water. it MAY clear up on it's own if things are kept in pristine condition. good luck :/
