hiya my female guppy has latley been acting really shy, hiding in the skull and not coming out until feeding time or just siting in the corner of the tank and not moving. Her scales are also up and she seems to be a little whiter than normal on her belly. Its definatly not old age because she still quite younge, ow and 1 thing i did notice is that it looks like she's scrapped herself on something, or something like that because on her belly there's a match that looks like she's lost a scale from there. She's also probably going to have some more babies in the next week or so, if that might have anything to do with it??

Thanx

Sadly it's dropsy and once the scales stick out there is no cure as it organ failure, i would issolate her if you can, as you don't want the rest of the fish pecking on her dead body, sorry.

.......................... :-( ...................apsaloutley nothing i can do??.....................no way she'll get better??................... :-(

i seperated her into a breeding trap (only thing i had that was spare and that would be heated) and she has definatley perked up quite alot her scales have gone in quite alot (still stiking out the most tiniest bit) is there any chance that maybe she didnt have dropsy and will get better??

Awwwww unfortunately that doesn't sound too good :( It sounds like you've done the best you can for her, and you'll have to watch her carefully...If you can swing it, try and get an isolation/hospital tank sorted out...but just keep an eye on her....Sadly dropsy aint curable...but you'll just have to wait and see :( The other thing that you need to sort out pronto is the cause of the infection...Because it'll spread like wildfire...It's a bacterial infection that you'll have to sort. Bad news...

Thats sad it seems like you love your fish alot :-( i would be devastated if it was mine best wishes

It, thankfully, has not happened to my fish yet and hope it never will, but I have seen many fish that have gotten it. It is a sad sight for sore eyes :-(

Sorry - that advanced stage of dropsy is practically incurable :/
At that stage the kindest thing to do is usually euthanasia.

The "good" news is, dropsy is generally not contagious. But the bad news is that it's usually (not always) a water quality issue. Make sure your maintenance is up to scratch and check your water parameters.
