Hey guys

I don't know whether anyone remembers but a while ago I bought a female guppy who was so fat that i put her straight into a breeding trap and within a few hours she had given birth. She gave birth to 3 fry and there was a lot of premature births (eggs everywhere) and when i posted on here, the chances of her living was not that great.

Anyways, she perked up a lot in the last month or so (i guess thats how long its been), and has been reunited with her babies who are about half the size of my other guppies! All very happy! :D Just thought I'd tell everyone about one of my success stories lol! When will I be able to tell what sex the fry are?

Yay! Great to hear. I always had faith in her...Guppies have a really strong will to live. :)

And it sounds like the fry are doing well too! You can sex them pretty early. Females will have a teensy tiny gravid spot. :) Males are harder to sex early, but if you see a gonopodium, it's a male. :p Just remember though, some males are late-developing, and can look like females for quite a long time.

Some of my male guppies are starting to develop gonopodiums now at 8 weeks old, you should be able to see the gravid spot on the females before this. As Annastasia says, keep checking them though because they develop at different speeds and some can be much later than this; I had a year old Platy who suddenly decided that she was going to be a boy!! (Well, I suppose HE decided  ).

while sexing is not difficult, it seems that they all grow at different rates. many times i've bothered to seperate the babies into male and female tanks but a few weeks later a male will just turn up in the female tank. you just have to keep an eye out! for my fry, it was atleast three or so months before i could sex them with certainty

Thanks for the help peeps :) Well there's no signs of either a gravid spot or a gonopodium on any of them yet so yeh i'll just have to keep an eye out! Thanks again
