Hi to everyone, this is my first post and i need some help.
I have had a 55 litre tank for just over 4 months now, which includes 8 various small fish e.g. Harlequins, Tetras and guppies (male and female).
My question is Why have i never seen any guppy fry? On many occassions my females have been pregnant (growing larger and dark gravid spot) but never any fry, the females just become small again.

I know that fry are often eaten by other fish, but my tank is heavily planted and i have never even seen one fry.
As you can guess, this is frustrating me, i have placed my females in a breeder net, when they are quite large, but always change my mind after a few days and release thm back into the tank.

Finally, How long can a female guppy be left in a breeder net before it becomes inhumane, but i really want some guppy fry.

Hope you can help, many thanks.

First off, it's best not to put a prego guppy in a breeder trap, but if you do end up putting them in there, don't leave them for more then a few hours or a day at the most. It could be that since you've been leaving them in the breeder trap for a few days time that they have gotten too stressed and aborted their fry. I'd take a closer look if I were you...newborn guppies are almost transparent and can fit into any tight spot in your tank, and I mean ANYTHING. Try looking around the gravel and corners of your tank. All fry are attracted by light so you could also put a flashlight in a corner and see if you get anything. Just check for fry frequently especially in the morning as guppies tend to give birth at night. Good luck!

Well the other fish could of eaten them. My guppy just gave birth and I have one fry left..

Do they die after giving birth? Cause sometimes when they abort or miscarry they can die.
