About 4 days ago i seen my female in the corner of the tank alot, she does this when the male is bugging her. She stayed there for days and was not eating, i seen that one of her bottom fins was patially gone. I took male out and left her in the 20 gallon. She still is not eating and stays at bottom of tank alot, she doesn't look very strong. I have been treating her with maracyn II and added some salt to the water. Is there a chance she will survive this? Before this they were laying eggs at least twice a month. I am wondering if she is tired because of laying all those eggs and that is why she is ill. Do the females have a shorter life span because of the egg laying? I hope I don't lose her, they have paired up well and she is so cute. Recently my tank has string algae, i have been keeping up with cleaning the algae off everything daily and replacing water weekly. My ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and never been a problem in this tank, always stable and still is. I have had this tank set up and cycled for 2 yrs now.

Sorry to here this.

As well as fin rot your fish might have a type of internal flagellated.

flagellated protozoan found in the gastrointestinal tracts of a variety of cold and warm water fish. Occasionally hexamita is found in healthy fish. Stress from malnutrition, shipping, over-crowding, or poor water quality may lead to rapid reproduction of the protozoan, resulting in disease ie fin rot.

Signs of hexamitiasis
Physical signs of hexamitiasis include weight loss, decreased activity and refusal of food, the abdomen visibly distended, darkning in colour, the poo will be white and stringy.

to treat use eSHa hexamita form lfs just follow instructions or metronidazole metro is better if you can get it.
