Well I've never had much luck with dwarf gouramis in the past so for the past year or two i've never gone near them. Learning of DGV has also put me off them.
However the lfs i have been working at for the past couple of months had a lonely female dwarf who was the only one left after most of the gouramis died from DGV. She had been in that tank since before i worked there with various tetras coming and going. So I'm sure after 2 months+ that she is free from DGV. I took her home and she seems to have settled in.
My question is, does she need another female to keep her company? It's unlikely that we're going to get a shipment of them in for a while because the last was of bad quality, and even if we did i would need to watch any female for months to make sure she's free from DGV, while hoping she doesn't get purchased.
I've never seen good dwarf gouramis in any other lfs around here, and everywhere including online only sells in pairs for some peculiar reason.
I don't really want to get a male, I would rather just have a few females.
So does anyone know where i can buy just female dwarf gouramis online that are 100% free from DGV? I cant quarantine fish either, since I'm not allowed a quarantine tank :( . Thanks :).

wats DGV?
also i got a dwarf gourami 2day. already had a yellow one and i just noticed that they was close to each other flappin away. dunno if there mateing or not tho

Dwarf gourami virus. Fully DGIV though I just call it DGV because I don't know what the 'I' stands for lol. Its a virus that around 22% of dwarf gouramis have, it's impossible to specifically detect and there is no cure.. It can't really be introduced to other fish in the aquarium apart form other dwarf gouramis, though apparently it has begun spreading to other species now.

My question is, does she need another female to keep her company?
Anybody know yet maybe? :)
And has anybody ever bought a healthy female dwarf gourami online? Or do you think it's too risky?
She seems happy enough, though she chases my red eye tetras quite alot, they have now nipped of her front feely things because of this  . I think they grow back though, and she is extremely healthy now, more so than when she was in the shop.

No, she doesn't need company. She would probably be better off with a few more female companions but adding just one more isn't adequate and will cause more harm than good as the dominant fish will pick on the other. With a larger group, this sort of aggression is spread out. However, like I said, she'll be fine alone.

The feelers do grow back BTW :)

Ah right that's perfect thanks, so i know now I don't have to risk buying more :good:
A relief about the feelers too!
Thanks! :D
