Hi guys
I've had a trio of apistos in a 30g for around 3 months now, 1 male and 2 females.
All seemed ok then yesterday one of the females wasn't looking so good, she was resting on the gravel looking off balance and breathing fast. No other symptoms ie: spots, pimples or fungus so I checked the water parameters which were fine. Amm 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 30. I've separated her into a large breeding net with an air tube bubbling extra oxygen in. She seems better today but do I put her back? I think the other female may be guarding eggs as she's been hiding a lot in her cave. Any ideas greatfully received.

sorry to hear she died

Why don't you just have the male and the female? If the female was being a bully she would probably do the same thing if you got another female. Or you could always add some other species of fish to distract her.

Good luck getting fry, trying to do the same myself :)

Thanks Seb R. There's aready 2 hoplos and some platys in there plus a baby silver shark I'm growing on to go in a bigger tank The platys are shortly to move into my 20g livebearers tank. Any suggestions for some future tankmates for the apistos?

Well right now I have 4, inch apisto jeuveniles with peppered corys, pygmy corys and two danios. Before they were constantly fighting, but now they all get on great. I think small ground fish and any livebearers would do well, aslong as they distracted from each other every once and a while :) .
