So with a friend moving out of state... I've inherited his fish tank, stand, some fish, and various other headaches. I will be upgrading my fish from the 30 gallon to his 55 and might have to rehome some of his fish depending on compatibility and size issues, etc.

Anyway, I also got a female convict from him that was sitting solo in a 10 gallon. I want to keep her and upgrade her to the 30 gallon. But what else can I put in with her? No, I do not want a pair and start breeding more unwanted convicts. But I was thinking a group of tiger barbs might work. Anything else??

Thanks.

My whole stocking will go into the 55 gallon.

So the 30 gallon so far only has the female convict.

What exactly is this guy that was in your siggy cheesy feet. I love the coloration. Maybe it's the angle that is making it hard for me to "properly" ID.

As for the question at hand. You could put other female cons in with her or some female firemouths. Some dithers such as tetras or danios. Tiger barbs might be good as well. I usually keep all my cons together, so I would do a group of female cons or shortbodied cons (aka JB parrots) they would be nice and are sexed the same way. I hope that helped a bit...

Given that I've heard that this convict used to be in a tank with other cichlids (I don't know what kinds) and got beat up... I do not want to risk it. I'm thinking of this stocking, any comments?

30 gallon tank...
- 1 female convict cichlid
- 6 tiger barbs
- 5 cories

Wendywc i would say that stocking list will probably be fine, try it out! Thats my friendly parrot fish :good: My king kong & him cost £22.00 each a couple of years back  .In the pic his fins are down though,so thats why it looks a bit weird lol.look at this.Sorry for hijacking the post.

That sounds like a decent stocking to try. Just keep an eye out and make sure that the barbs don't nip the cories or convict too much. They should be too busy with each other, but just as an added precaution :good:

As for cheesy feet, I love the patterning, I haven't seen pics of many KK parrots, I've never seen one that color. It's absolutely gorgeous! I'm sure the price for a specimen like that has increased since then ;).

he's just actually a normal parrot with special colouring, the parrot swimming next to him(big orange one) with the flat face is the KK.I think they have grown about 2 inches since i got them, but i would never sell them. They're mine! :shifty:

Well, I also inherited a rainbow shark... would the following stocking be okay instead or should I rehome him?

30 gallon tank (30" w X 12" d X 18" h)...
- 1 female convict cichlid
- 6 tiger barbs
- 1 rainbow shark
- 1 rubbernose or smaller pleco

It's funny you mention silver dollars because I did also inherit two of those. However, I want them to be in the 55 gallon, so they can have more swimming room. Plus I'm going to give them a buddy or two.

I just want to know if a rainbow shark would be okay with the convict, since I now have one... but in no way will I put it in with my community.

my sons got a rainbowin his community tank, just put a dos of salt in to keep it calm, had no casulties..........

I'm bumping this because I'm still unsure of what to put in with the female convict. Does anyone out there have success with tiger barbs and a female convict together??

Also after reading about barbs picking on cories... cories will not be put into the tank.

So this is the new stocking list I had in mind.
- 1 female convict cichlid
- 8 tiger barbs, reg & albino
- 1 pleco or not?
