our female convict that laid eggs a couple of weeks ago is just staying in the corner of the tank, not moving. She was swimming about happily this morning but now her tail looks all squished up and is just laying there

Tank size in gallon or litres would be good, plus how many fish and which type, water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
The tail does it look like its rotting away, can you explain what you mean abit more, also what do you feed the fish, try some bloodworms.

55 gallon tank, there were 2 adult convicts but i put the female in another tank, there are also about 70 convict fry. The tail sorta looks like its rotting and its all squished in and looks more whitish than it was before. i feed them wardley large cichlid pellets and sorry but i dont have a test kit yet(i was gonna go and get one the other day but i was sick)

Water change, take s sample of your water to the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you, and to be honest i would invest in a test kit of your own in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, liquids ones are the best more accurate them them terrible strip things.
Need to improve there diet so take a look on the forum or the net for the diet what they need to stay healthy.
It sounds like finrot and you will need a bacterial med.
