Would this bowl be ok to house some female bettas for a couple of days while their tank cycles? I have to order the girls now and I am currently cycling in their tank so they have to go some where. I could wait till next pay day to get the girls, but this is a nice stock and my sisters birthday is in a two weeks after my birthday on friday. It would have more water in it of course. :)

Is the water in that tank cycled water? just out of interest... If you are using such a temporary measure, I would make sure you net the bettas out of the bag, rather than add the polluted water. Also give them a plastic plant or something to hide behind after the stressful journy!

Since you have other aquariums could use either some filter medium or perhaps an ornament that has been in there for awhile to put in the tank you are cycling now? What I do is keep a few extra rocks in tanks so when I start a new tank. I let the tank I am cycling set as long as possible then when I come across a fish, usually a betta I put the rock in the tank just to kick start the bacteria. That way you won't have to take a chance on the females getting to aggressive in a smaller bowl and not beable to get away from the bully. How many females are you going to get?

That looks suspiciously like those biscuit jars you can find in tesco. I have a half dozen of them. I had the view of using them as a temp measure for baby bettas that were waiting to be rehomed. They are tiny, even for one. I would never keep more then one in it. The water would foul up within the first 24 hours and the conditions extremely cramped. If no one else is living in the cycling tank (I assume they aren't) I'd use that, obviously stop the cycling you're doing and fill it with clean water, let them finish the cycling. It'll be much safer and less polluted then that little jar.

Well online I am buying two. I am buying three more from my lfs that will just be veil tails. The bowl is a drumstyle two gallon. It would only be for maybe just a day. It will be done by this Tuesday, and I should get the fish by maybe Monday?

5 females in a 2 gallon tank.... females that have never seen each other and have not yet established a hierarchy..... you could end up with some serious problems.....

How is it that you are guesstimating when your tank will be cycled? What are your numbers? And what is the tank they are going into?

If you're buying some from your lfs, just wait until your tank is cycled to get them. It's not fair to the fish to hurry these things along.

Well I am waiting to get the three other females from the lfs once the tank is cycled. I should put the females in separate tanks till I get the other three and they can go in the ten gallon sorority. The tank should be cycled by now, but I just dont think it would be good to not put them in all at the same time. :)

Ummmm, ok am gonna play the dumb person now.....
How are you cycling your tank? If you are fishless cycling with ammonia or similar, why are you not checking it daily, if it's supposedly nearly ready? Surely that will tell you whether it's time to stop the fishless cycle, replace the water and put in stock?
If you aren't cycling like that then.....how? :/
I'm sorry if these are irritating q's. It's just that I've known people to 'cycle' a tank just by leaving it filled with water and left to stand before now. Which, of, course, achieves absolutely nothing.
Maybe it's just late and I've read your post all wrong, but I am feeling a touch confused. Either way, the glass thing is still not a good option. Two in a 2g? Never healthly......but 5??? So not!! Might be less agression towards any single one but pollution would be....nasty.

Nooooo I will have one female in two different two gallon bowls! I just don't like the idea of female bettas in small tanks. Also I have been cycling right. The ammonia level is almost perfect. I am just guessing when it will be level. What I am saying is that it more than likely will be done by Tuesday when I go shopping. They only would be in the small tank for about a day. So when I go shopping and I have the other three females, I can put them all in the ten gallon at the same time.

I hate when things get off topic. Someone just answer the question.

Ideally, no. Unless you get very lucky and you chose two females who can live together peacefully. However, there all alternatives.

A lot of betta owners do 100% water changes to no discomfort of the fish, so grab a mason jar (with lid) or buy a new Tupperware piece (again, with lid) and put one in the bowl and one in the jar. Especially if it's such a short amount of time. But even so, if they can live in those crappy little containers at pet stores for months at a time, they will be fine in a jar for a few days.

People just get angry when they hear about bettas in little containers and sometimes fail to realize that it's only temporary.

Thank you. Ok I will do so, and remember everyone the females will be put in the 10 gallon the second I have all five! They will only be in the containers less than one day.
