an albino rainbow/red tailed shark [im never sure which one, but they have the same manerisms]

I've seen 3 beautiful female bettas in a shop near me and i wanted to put them in my established 10 gallon tank which houses my shark

I've never had a casulty beacause of the shark though he did like to chase my molly but didnt nip, there are plenty of hiding spaces for my shark though she just cruises around the castle

has anyone had any problems? or any specific reason to why it wouldnt work? or even if 3 bettas is too much/little

thanks =]

Hi MewMew42,

I, unfortunately, see several problems with this. Female bettas are typically not much better together than males. The only way this typically works is if you have a pretty large tank and go with 5 or more females so the aggression is spread out. In a 10 gallon, there is no room to escape form a tormentor, and with 3, you can bet there will be tormenting.

I would also foresee problems with the red-tail or rainbow shark. 10 gallons really isn't an ideal amount of space for this fish, but they tend to do better with things that are more aggressive and nippy like themselves, such as barbs.

In my opinion, your best bet would be to return the shark and stock the tank with a single female betta and some small tetras or pencilfish.
