Hey everyone! Just curious what tankmates would go well with a female betta? I was thinking glowlight tetras. The tank would be moderately planted with java fern and anubias. Thanks!

Hi :)
Not sure what is 'recommended' but in with my females I have, platies, mollies, neons, WCMM, Danios, also some bottom feeding fish.

some people say that female bettas are meant to be quiet timid fish, all of mine are always at the front of the tank and swimming about :)

Also better to have 3 rather than 2 as some can be a little aggresive, that way it saves 1 getting picked on :fun:

what size is the tank? tetras 'should' be fine, as said its recommended either to have a single female or go for 5 to spread aggresion :good:

you can have most fish with female bettas, try and get at least 2. my girls used to chase with the danios but never even competed with my neons for food. they are brilliant additions to community tanks. :)

Its a 5 gallon, 2 java ferns and 3 anubias filtered by a tetra mini filter. Thanks again everyone! All the advice is greatly appreciated. Oh! I will be getting only one female betta. :)

I do but I dont think 1 more fish, exspecially a female betta. If I kept on top of water changes and added some floating plants to help with water stats?

hi i do not mean to hijack your thread but,

I have a 4 foot tank with 2 mollies 6 platies 12 guppies 5 cardinal neons 5 black neons my tank is quite large and is not overcrowded at all,
I have driftwood pongel plants hairygrass and gravel do you think my tank would be suitable to house 3 female bettas?. my water conditions are allways spot on with a stable 7.5 ph no nitrites no amonia 27 degrees celcius temp and i would love to introduce some female bettas to my fish community. Any info or opinions much appriciated ;)

These are the fish Ive tried with my female Bettas I had in the past and worked. Half Banded Spiny Eel, SA Bumble bee catfish, Kuhli loaches, Oto cats, guppies, Dwarf Gourami, julii/peppered cories, balloon mollies, Siamese Algae eater, BN pleco, swordtail...hope that helps.

the guppies are a hit and miss but may be ok, i have a group of endlers with my females

i'd recommend at least 5 though
