Ok well right now i have 2 mollys and a few guppies in a 5 gallon tank, if i upgrade ( i dont no how big yet, but probly around 20 gallons) could i possibly put in 3-5 feamle betta? The tank would be planted and have hiding places

the other tank mates in the aquarium are not disided yet, maybe a pear gourami, and a few kuhli loaches?

if you dont think the bettas would work, would it be because of the guppies?

thanks for the help

Sounds like a good match, though I dont know about the male guppies and female bettas... I put a betta in once with a male, and it ripped off half of the poor gups tail.

the female bettas should be right but male bettas will tear the guppies to shreads though it has been done not every male betta is like that

hi, i have two females in with these

l18 golden nugget plec
1 ancistrus
6 harlequin rasbora
4 emperor tetra
6 khuli loach
2 threadfin rainbows
chocolate gourami
croaking gourami
2 freshwater shrimps
g a snail.

and the only one they bother (just slightly) is my chocolate gourami, theyre fine with all the others, although i do have a lot of hiding places in my tank. i would say that females would be ok with guppies, but a male would probably take one look at the long finnage, and bounce them around the tank. if i was you id get some nice shoaling fish, like emperor tetra, or maybe cardinals. as it gives a good feel to a tank when you can see a shoal.

as for the pearl gourami, i have seen these get quite big before, and they dont tend to do as well on there own, if i was you id have a look at chocolate gouramis because there (in my opinion) one of the nicest tropical fish about, and they only get to about 5cm max, so you could have a couple.

i dont want to tell you what to get lol, but its just a few ideas.

thanks spilz
well i looked up chocolate gourami, thanks for the idea, but they look wayyyy to delicate for me hah
can i ask how big your tank is?

could i posibly put german rams or some honey dwarf gourami?
it could be great if i could have some of both, but i think that might be to many fish you no

ill take any ideas any1 has

thanks

i had females with guppies and they got on fine for a start, then they started to disappear so i removed the remaining guppies and they turned on each other

my tank is a 21 gallon, i think its 31 inches x 15 x 15

my chocolate gourami has been ill twice since ive had it, ive had it a year, there a lot to look after, but there mint lol. what about cardinals, or harlequin rasbora, i think if you had a shoal of fish in there it would make the tank look more realistic, if ya know what i mean.

I agree. Female bettas don't seem to bother female guppies (probably since they're larger and have smaller tails) but male guppies tend to get picked on and torn up.

I've successfully kept female bettas with large livebearers, less aggressive gouramis (pearls and dwarves) and bumblebee gobies (they take turns chasing each other... lol).
