Can a female betta be placed in a community tank? I bought one, but I don't have a place to put her unless she goes in my community tank, or in my 1g fish bowl {don't want to put here b/c there's no lid}

I have/plan to get
5 wcmms
4 gupps 1:3 ratio
10 neons
5-6 chery barbs
possible female betta just the one

Edit: meye speeling sux

I would say no b/c of the barbs. They tend to be pretty agressive especially if the female is small and can easily be picked on. Even though the females have short fins they can still be nipped, making the neons a no too. I would suggest finding something to cover the 1 gallon bowl, anything will do really.

did you know that cherry barbs are skiddish and non-aggressive? If so then I won't get the barbs (I listed what I plan to have)

They are in the index if you would like to read their "profile"

My bad, I just saw barbs and assumed they were agressive like the ones I always see in my lfs.

so she's aight then? Cuz she's still in that horrible cup from WM and I need to get her out of it...

I'd say it all really depends on the betta you have. I'd add her when you can watch her for a while to see how she does. Is she a lot smaller than your other fish?

no, she's the same size, give or take a centi or 2

I'd say it's ok to try, just keep an eye on things. I guess it's also possible that she will pick on the other fish??? Who Knows, I think every person has had different experiences with it. I know all of my females are too timid to be put with anything else though.

I would sincerely advise against it.

Neons make extremely poor tankmates for Bettas, because they nip. The gender of the Betta doesn't matter, because they still nip.

The White Cloud Mountain Minnows are fine. They're good, peaceful fish.

The Guppies are a no. Guppies and Bettas rarely make good tankmates. I've had one female Betta who was in the tank for less than three seconds before reaching over and removing the entire tail of my male Guppy in one bite.

GRRR! What should I do with her? (why do they have to be so difficult? )

BTW: does anyone know where BettaMomma is???

Just find something to cover the 1 gallon with. I just use a piece of plastic craft canvas that I use to make my dividers. If you need to get her in there asap just cover it with anything. A piece of paper would work temporarily, I doubt she would jump if she doesn't see out of the top. Or just don't fill it clear to the top until you get something.
