Female betta has stripes that appear and disappear

If some one could tell me what they mean that would be great

The stripes(horizontal) in the pic could mean she is stressed, frightened or disturbed. My female had them for a few days like that after I got her. When the stripes go up and down(vertical) in direction she might be indicating her willingness to want to mate.

horizontal stripes are the base colouring of the fish. when they are stressed they sometimes lose their colouring revealing the stripes underneath. when you look at juvenile bettas (around 2 months old) they all have the horizontal striping as their body colour hasn't fully developed yet. vertical stripes do indeed indicate the female is excited, especially if there is a male in the whereabouts.

both of mine got them when i first brought them home.
they eventuly went away when they settled into their new homes.
the stripes will be vertical when she wants to breed, and is full of eggs

Flowerpetal got it right. The horizontal stripes are "fear" stripes. My new female had them the first day I brought her home last week. But after that she was fine and swims up to me like a little puppy begging for food.

Vertical stripes mean she's ready for betta love.

like i said - "when they are stressed". this "base" striping is more predominant in females than males.

i don't know why this happens but usually it probably becuase of your health i think its a sign but im not sure. never had this happen to me before.
