Has anyone kept a female betta with orange platies? I ask because our female platies are beginning to pop out fry at an alarming rate. Was thinking the female would keep their numbers down.

But previously, we tried keeping a male betta and the platies together. Didn't go so well. Any personal experience with a female betta?

Would the female betta even go for the platy fry?

Ive kept a male betta in with female guppies and the betta quite liked chasing the guppy fry. It depends on the male betta if they are aggressive against the platy. Mine is quite aggressive towards female bettas, but went well with guppies. Im sure a female betta would be a good fry controller. Dont know if that makes any sense.

It does. Thanks for input.

It seems that each male betta is different, as far as aggressiveness toward other species of fish. I'm wondering about females.. think they are equally as varied? Or in general they are more docile.

In general the females are a little bit more peaceful than the males, but they have personalities that vary just like males. I would think if the female can catch the fry within the first week, she'd eat them, otherwise after that they might start getting too big for her mouth. ^_^

Do females usually spend their time at the top? We have 1 male betta and he just hangs out near the surface, begging us for food.

I ask because our platy fry know that the gravel is a good place to hide.
