Hey guys, noticed today my little female Apisto Cac. has gone a really bright yellow and her markings are really dark black. I've not seen her out in the open all that much today but shes not been in the coconut cave either so no breeding has happened yet! Does this mean she is ready to breed and will be trying to persuade the male to breed with her?

My male I've noticed has got yellow highlights to his fins lately (He's white) but he doesn't look much bigger that she does and isn't really paying her that much attention today even though shes glowing yellow, does this mean hes not interested?

Cheers for any help!

If your male isn't much bigger than your female he may just be to young. It's also possible they did spawn, just not where you wanted them to. Often the male will leave the female with the eggs and act as though nothing has happened until the fry are free swimming.

My wild caught cacatuoides are preparing to breed as we speak. You will notice them dancing around the caves and displaying to each other. You'd think that they would get darker colors, but mine appear washed out at the moment. You will know for sure when they are about to breed when you see their breeding tubes start to descend from their bodies.

Thanks for your help guys, added a few more coconut caves so we'll see what happens!
