 Today this man came into the store, he said he had a 5 gallon. He wanted to buy a male Kenyi I told him a 5 gallon wasn't sufficent size for the fish. The man insisted that I sell the fish to him and I mean i'm not really allowed to say no. He then proceeded to buy a platy and Iridecent shark to go along with it. Even after telling him they won't make it till' tonight he said it was his risk and he wanted them, he then told me "I love my fish." I do not know how he could love his fish...

Jerk I hate people like that. That don't take advice for a grain of salt. Happens all the time. This guy came in and had a 10 gallon tank that he had just set up that day. he wanted to buy 10 fancy goldfish, one of them being a full grown 30 dollar Ryukin. Then he also had me scoop up 35 large feeder goldfish, all to go in this one 10 gallon tank. I told him tevery last one will be dead in 2 days, thats just murdering them uneccessarily, thats almost 50 large fish in 1 ten gallon, disgusting, and all he says to me is, "I don't care, i want them"

It just makes me so angry  I really wish that more laws could be placed down on fish, if the fish expert (what we are called at our store) says you shouldn't put these togather then you simply by law, shouldn't be allowed, as simple as that. It's amazing how many people come in looking to buy fish, don't know how many fish they have in the tank, can't tell me the size of the tank, and can't even spot atleast one of them out in our fish tanks  neglect. I have people coming in telling making me give them koi for there 10 gallons and common plecos for their 2.5 gallons. One time someone came in complaining her filter wasn't working. We plugged the thing into the wall and as she complained no water was flowing out of it. We took it apart and gunk and eaten food came pouring out of the tube part I can't imagine the ammonia burn those fish must have. It really is ashame..

I've had similar things happen. This guy wanted to get 4 Oscars for his 20gallon tank, the Oscars were already about 3" each, I told him that one of those fish would out grow the 20gallon tank within 2 months time, what does he tell me? "oh don't worry about it, I've got a 75gallon tank for when these four grow fully" I called my manager over, explained the situation and we both basically begged the man not to buy the fish. He tells me he still wants them, I told him that I was sorry but that I wouldn't sell the fish to him. So what does he do? Calls my store manager over and explains to her that I refuse to sell him the 4 Oscars for his 150gallon fish tank! She asked if it was true and before I could answer my other manager steps in and starts yelling at this guy telling him how he told the two of us that it was a 20gallon tank and that a 75gallon tank would be the home for the 4 oscars full grown. My store manager kicked him out of the store and banned him HA!

Serves him right, man if I was you I'd of told the guy to get his own damn fish and I'd of gotten my manager. Sucks though, too bad for those fish... He loves his fish indeed... *shakes head*

You're lucky! I wish I could have done the same! My manager really couldn't do anything to be honest, if he did the boss would give him crap :(

A guy who works at one of the LFS near me told me a story about a woman who wanted to buy "nemo fish" to pass out at her childs birthday party in bowls!!! He refused, and while he did get in trouble, at least he didn't get fired.

In a similar situation a small kids party wanted to Elmos fish Daurathy in bowls forallthe kids to have. What is more depressing telling your kid no they can't have one. Or having ten kids with a small bowl with a dead comet in it???

Hard to make that decision. so We took our comet and added it to my 55 gal. can't I'm sure most of the rest of the parents struggeled for a week time they had a dead Daurathy

It can't be ALL about profit can it! I mean, I read here that caring lfs employees are given the sack or b*****kings for refusing a sale but surely, don't you need some sort of licence to sell livstock? :dunno:

If not then.......YOU SHOULD! :shout:

I wish all LFS and LPS would refuse to sell fish to people.
I mean refusing to sell to one person isn't going to decrease sells by much.. specially at places like Petsmart.
They're always busy so denying one stubborn moron fish isn't going to hurt them any.

I've told this story before, but when we were in Superpets one day.
I overheard the employee in charge of the fish talking to a customer.
And suddenly I hear the customer say that he has something like over 50fish!
Now looking at the employees face, you could tell that this guy had all of these fish in a very small area, b/c soon after the employee started telling him about the 1inch per gallon rule.
But you know what the customer did, he just laughed in the guys face and said he didn't care. He wanted the fish anyway... :\

Yep, that was almost like what happend/has happend to me the people just laughed in my face... Majority of people make me sick, thats all there is to it...
Or like sometimes when people don't want to be helped by me because they think I know nothing. I saw one guy browsing at the fish, I aksed if he needed any help and the man said no he was fine, I went and sat down by our big goldfish tank. Later I saw the other fish expert walk past me and into the fish section, the man turned around and imidiatley and asked for assistance while I was clearly visible only 10 feet away...

Even when I tell the other fish experts they really can't do anything, they just shake there heads and sigh...
