So when flake food says 'Complete Food' it's wrong?????? How mis leading!!!!!

Surely it's better to vary isn't it??????

it depends, sometimes its better not to vary. if you have a constant supply of healthy live food, its best not to vary much, cause its already the best kind of food you can get. most of the time, its best to give them something different once in a while. before my culture of tubifex died, i fed them tubifex everyday. now i feed them ground up shrimp pellets, ocean nutrition fomula one food, and frozen brine shrimp

I've recently started making my own fish food. It's made of tuna, as well as many different kinds of vegetables and fruits blended up, then plain gelatin is added to keep it all together. It's super easy to make, cheap, and one batch will last months! Even my hamster loves it (as a treat only, of course)!

WOW....you guys do spoil your fish.......hehe

I am currently feeding flake with the odd feed of Daphnia & Bloodworm.

I thought about putting some veggies in like Zucchini but my fella said our fish wouldnt eat it???????

Do ALL fish like veggies???

No. All fish have different diets, only fish that eat plants will eat veggies. Common ones I can think of off the top of my head are livebearers, oto catfish, plecs, some cichlids. Drop a slice of cucumber in and see if it gets munched on. It can take a few hours for the fish to find their way to it though, IME.

Thanks I will try it for my platys

I am so amazed that people can feed any other species a variety but when people think about dogs (or cats for that matter) they think it's okay to feed kibble day in and day out. Not to highjack the thread, but I feed all raw food to my dogs and they thrive.

So it makes sense to me to do it for the fish, I'm just not as good at it yet. I have done thawed frozen peas and they really like that. Also fresh frozen then thawed zucchini (plec goes nuts as do ottos!).

For store bought, I have some pricey immune builder tiny granules, usual flakes (we jokingly call them poptarts), algae wafers, shrimp pellets, freeze dried bloodworms, freeze dried tubifex. I think I will get into the frozen stuff next trip to the LFS and try that out.
