I am new to keeping loaches (and fish in general). I have 3 clowns and 2 yoyos in a 75 gallon tank with misc other fish. They eat like pigs. How do I know when they have had enough to eat? They steal all the flake food away from the other fish. I have a full grown shy kissing gourami that never gets any food cause the loaches swim up to the surface and suck all the food down. They will even steal the food right out his mouth. I have tried throwing sinking pellets in 1st but the loaches like the flake better. How do I feed the gourami AND the loaches properly with out dumping too much food in the tank? The loaches still search for food even after their tummies are bulging.

should be a fair amount of what they can consume in a matter of time. from then on you should know how to feed your fish

i think her point is that no matter how much she feeds, the loaches take it all and the others go hungry. so feeding "not alot" isn't gonna help.

how about putting food in various places in the tanks, maybe if the loaches were eating and you put some in at a different place the other fishes could get it while the loaches weren't looking so to speak? or have you tried that?

yeah...that's what i do too..i spread the food all over the place and also i learned that fishes don't eat because they're hungry..but because there is food so don't be fooled..

I am new too and have 3 clown loaches and a few other fish. I also spread the4 food across the tank so there is enough space for every one.

I'll give it a try. I hadn't tried spreading the food everywhere. I put it in at one end mostly because it spreads pretty fast toward the power filter and once it hits the falling water it gets blasted down to the bottom. that darn gourami won't even eat while i am watching him. I have to duck down so he won't see me. -_-

I used to turn the filter off while i put food in because otherwise when i put it in two places it got carried in a big circle by the current and all jubled up. : :/

Ive angled my pump so that the smaller bits of flake get swept around the perimeter of the tank and reach my shy neon tetras before the loaches have seen it
Clever eh??? :hey:
