Noticed that the pond fish aren't to bothered now when I feed them,is it time to stop feeding now?

I don't feed mine now except once or twice a week on a small amount of Wheat Germ, now that the weather is turning colder they will start to stay near the bottom of the pond and will not feed as heavily as their growing season is now over and they do not need as much food.

you beat me to it cat lol was just thinking of posting about this topic ,metabolisms will have slowed down,im feeding mine a little evert few days and if they dont come up im skimming it off, cleaned the pump etc today ready for the winter soon be time for the plastic to go over brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :-(

ours will stilltake a good meal once a day, I'm getting some wheatgerm from work when it comes in though.

Alot of the other foods available are high protein and intended for summer feeding when the fish are in the growing season. Proteins can't be stored or absorbed by the fishes at lower temperatures, because of this they often pass quickly through the fish, in turn releasing alot of high protein waste into the pond affecting water quality. However, if can be worse than this. If your fish feed on foods with high protein contents when the temperature is higher enough for them to digest it but then subsquently drops the undigested food can lie in the fishes gut for long periods of time and cause damage. :) Wheatgerm is a nutritional food that will not pollute the water as much and can be feed in lower temperatures.

I'll get some and give it a go!
snap :p
Hey can they still have maggots?
You can still feed them the little wrigglers, although they may not show as much interest in them. If they aren't eating them let the maggots go free and start feeding them again when the temp picks up again.

Run free maggots run free :)

Born Free ,free as a maggot

Maggots remind me of pauls feet

I started feeding mine with wheatgerm about 3 weeks ago and they turn their noses up at it

Most of them take 2 or 3 pellets of it and then spit it out.lol

Ive told them that at this time of year.....its wheatgerm or nothing :p

Tell them thats the only thing on the menu for the next 5 months.
