Since I know convicts like meats I tried putting a small amount of dog food in for them today and.....

They loved it, just wondering if this is ok? :)

I wouldnt feed any of my fish dog food or any thing like that. I feed my fish that are meat eaters shrimp, I buy big bags of frozen shrimp and unthaw it and feed all of my meat eater it. I would never feed them dog food.. That will mess up your tank with the grease that is in dog food. You will have to clean that film that it would leave.. I sure wouldnt never do that. But that is my opinion. Everyone is intitled to one.. :hey:

Dog food . They aren't dog feed them fiiiiiiiiiiiish foooooooooooooood. But from what I know convict is the hardest fish I know off almost to a lvl of immunted. When I fish kept my convict they servive the crappest condition ever even all the other fish die they still breed .

Mammal meat is not good for any fish, even the carnivores - just like mcdonalds for us it won't kill them if you do it once in a while, but what's the point? For the health of your fish stick to fish foods or frozen foods meant for fish.

The only mammal meat I can think of that is used in home aquatics is beefheart, usually used for discus. I don't think cattle decide to drop a heart while crossing a river in the amazon where discus live. Somehow brine shrimp reproducing in the soft, fresh waters of the amazon seems far fetched to me also. These foods had been tried & proven by folks with many years of experience with fish. Unless someone with experience breeding & raising cons told you this was something to try, I wouldn't do it.

I would refrain from feeding dog food simply because of the additives etc. I don't think a build up of these would be good for the fish in the long run. Feed earthworm and the likes if you want to give them a treat.
