Ok, I've read, read, read, and read and I KNOW that you feed the fish an amount that they can finish in 5 minutes....

The question is how many times a day do you do this?
At the moment I only feed them once, but should they be given breakfast, lunch, and dinner???

Some advice on this would be welcome as nowhere else seems to give guidance.

Thanks :good:

Depends on the fish.... Most "common" tropicals "need" 1-2 meals a day. Discus and the like will benefit from 3-5, plecos 1-3 times a week... Preditors like Oscars want arround once a week. There isn't an answer to this in the froum, because there is no "apply anywhere" rule for it ;)

Absolutely agree. There is no definitive answer. Something to bear in mind though is that most typical tropicals will go 10days+ without being fed at all. Just from scavenging leftovers. My advice is to feed enough food that can be completely eaten within 2 minutes of being put in. Only feed 6 days per week, leaving a scavenging day on the 7th. Try and feed a variety of different dried food types over the 6 days with one day being given frozen live food. Only feed once per day. Overfeeding is one of the main causes of poor water quality in many tanks. Leftover food quickly decays, producing excess ammonia which your filter bacteria simply can't cope with. This excess is very detrimental to the health of your fish. Overfiltering and more frequent water changes can help, but actually solving the root cause by feeding less is always the best solution.

I feed twice a day, plecs get fed every other day and treats once a week (bloodworm, micro pellet or carnivore pellets) my lot have a scavenge day 1-2 times a month

This seem to work for me and the fish. my mollies are greedy buggers tho
