i read somewhere some time ago that hard boiled egg yolk is an excelent first food for fry as it breaks up into tiny tiny particles in water, and obviously its high in protien.
would it be ok to feed betta fry on this kind of food?
i imagine it would poloute the water if overdone, but if water changes are kept in order this surely wouldnt be a problem

Pretty sure it's fine. Actually, I'm almost positive. I've heard and read the same. I think you need to wait 5-7 days or so (or maybe a day after they are free swimming) to do this, and only in very small increments. I've also heard to wet it first, but I don't see why, since it will be wet in the water anyway.

well its not recommended as the #1 source of food... more so as an emergency source if something went wrong to ur main source...

then again iv never tried it so i wouldnt know if it would work or not :good:

egg yolk is ok for emergency food, but i wouldn't use it as a constant food source. it makes a big mess, and cleaning becomes even harder for you. iv had to use it before and had alot of problems trying to clean up after it.

It is good for fry, but overfeeding is WAY TOO EASY. I wiped out like 3 groups of fry from overfeeding. If you're going to do it, feed a tiny amount, and do a water change the same day.
