Hi Gemma, i think you should be ok with cucmber. I have seen a lot of tanks with cucumber in there and as most commom tropical fishare omnivores, they will eat veg. I havent tried mine with any yet but i do plan too once i am fully stocked. If you put the cucmber peice in the microwave for 10-20 seconds to soften it before putting it in there. HTH. Gra :good:

:hi:

most fish will have a pick at some vegies. some more than others. a sure fire hit with everyone is deshelled peas. i do the same thing as mentioned in the previous post. take the shells of the peas and it splits in two. chuck them in and watch them go hehe

I feed my fish cucumber - I peel a one inch slice, load it onto the Screwcumber and lower it to the bottom of the tank on a thread. All my fish have a nibble, but especially the BNs, SAEs and Odessa barbs. They eat the middle first, to leave a tunnel. The BNs then fight to see who gets the best position in that tunnel! I leave it in for a day, or until it's gone.

I do exactly the same with cougette.

I also feed peas - take a few from the freezer, defrost them in the microwave for a couple of seconds, squeeze them out of the shell. I mash them up a bit with a fork, otherwise my rainbows (which have large mouths but small thoats) grab a huge piece and carry it round for hours, unable to swallow it! All the fish love the peas!

I've been meaning to try cucumber with my barbs. I'll try it when I get home. Does it make the tank cloudy? I would think super thin slices would be ideal but I read 'inch thick slices'. Probably doesn't matter that much.

Thanks for the courgette def. I had no idea.

Just to add, I wouldn't bother buying a screwcumber when a plant weight or spoon will do the job just as well, it's another one of those gimmick things, yeah it's a good idea but why spend money when you don't have to.
