my two 3" firemouths always hide and will only eat food that is in their line of sight.

what can i do to make them eat?

(i tried 4 rosy barbs as dither fish and the fish became more active, but the barbs died of ammonia poisoning i think :'( )

have you tryed sinking granuals and just droping them in front of there face, or some live food can cox shy feeders.

Try adding some phamtom, cardanals, rummie's or something simalar, that come from the similar region.

What are the water parameters?
Has the tank finished cycling? Think about it - would you feel like eating with a sore throat? Ammonia can damage the fishes mouths & throats as well as gills.

How long have you had the tank and the fish?
If you've only just obtained them, they could still be stressed.

A lot will learn a pavlovian type reflex after time - ours know that if the hatch opens, its feeding time.

Just stick to your regieme (assuming your tank and fish are ok) and they will get the idea.

Also, remember to vac up anything that isn't eaten, otherwise it will decompose and add to the ammonia/nitrates in the water causing you problems.....
