Feeding Cucumber To Fish

This may seem like a daft question but I am about to feed cucumber or courgette to my catfish ,should I cut the outside bit off ?

I leave the rind on the cucumber and put on a plant weight. I slice it about an eigth of an inch and it goes in 24 hours then I hook the weight and rind out (important to do this) I found the courgette messy and a lot ended up in my filter media!
