Feeding Cat Fish Techniques

Well i feed the cichlids at around 9pm and then the lights go around about 11pm and the catfish usually get fed around 11:30. But as soon as the catfish chip hits the water and begins its decent the cichlids are out like a shot to greet it! Is their any thing i can do to make sure it gets to the catfish?? i mean when the cichlids get it i dont know if they eventually drop it but id have to sit and try and watch for that!

Will it be better feeding the catfish when i feed he rest? Feed the cichlids at one end of the tank and drop the chips in the other (but the lights would still be on)

How do you guys go about doing it? I mean they must eat the cichlid food that drops to the bottom but still it cant be much that makes it that far.

What do you guys do??

I put it all in at the same time. Gives the sinking food a chance to get down to the bottom.

If you are really concerned that the catfish isn't getting any, maybe use a tube to target feed. Could be tricky depending on how skittish the fish is though, but it might eventually learn that tube = food.

Tried feeding them all at once and once they demolish their food they eventually find the crisps meant for the catfish and swim around with them in their mouth which is annoying me something rotten the little ....... One min the crisps are in the cichlids mouth the next they are not so im just hoping from the point the cichlids drop them they get a bite or 2 before they are carried away again!! The cats looks happy swimming around so i just hope they are getting fed!

Oh and i sent the chips down in my fish net haha seemed to work but like above the cichlids find them haha the catfish got them for a little bit adleast!

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. Goldfish and catfish. goldfish eat all food.
the way I fixed is by feeding the catfish while lights are off. catfish are normal night dewlers and
they have instinct to feed at night anyways. they also have a great sence of smell and feel and will easly
find the food before the other fish if the cat in hungry enough. I Feed early in the morning while lights are min and leave lights off and will add goldfish food first on once side of the tank and then catfish food on other. Once the catfish is done eating I turn lights on so goldfish can finish thier food. This works for nigth and in morning.
