Sometimes I see fairly colorful feeder guppies at the LFS. Some have Endler-like colors. I wonder how they would do as "pets." Granted, it's said that feeders may be diseased, etc., but I'm curious if proper care and quarentine coupled with a little selective breeding would yield some decent fish.

their fine as pets. their sold as feeders coz their not as colourful so don't demand the money.

I heard that
a: Fancy guppies were treated very nicely before they were shipped to a pet store where their environment is... Lacking.... This weakens the guppies, but their fry will be used to the pet store environment.

b: Feeder guppies are called that because they are not as colorful as fancy guppies and are sometimes used as food for predatory fish.z

i have some "feeders" as pets and prefer them much more to the fancy varieties. their colorations are much more variable and interesting than the fanicies (at least thats my opinion). id recommend them any day!

I've had great luck with keeping feeder Guppies. They've always been hardier for me, and I prefer them to Fancy Guppies.
