Well as some might know i have a decent size tank now but worry about overfeeding but at the same time some fish not getting their share. With a larger number of fish what is the best method of feeding? At the moment for 30 fish i put as much flakes in the tank as they could eat in 3 min, not one flake was left but i was tempted to put more but remebered this is the root of all evil lol. what do you think for bigger tanks?

I try and copy their natural habitat as much as i can. What i mean is this- they get fed no more than 4/5 times a week. Some days i'll feed them small amounts twice a day with flake, the next i wont feed at all, the next they will have one of those stick-on the glass tablet forms for the greedy Xray Tetra and some flake for the rest, then i wont feed for 2 days, then maybe some frozen bloodworm... after only 2 months of studying my fish i quickly learnt they will eat as much as they can in a small amount of time, i suppose in the wild they never know when their next meal will come from!

A variable diet is, from what i have read, the best way to feed your fish... i also have two types of shrimp food for my Cherry Red Shrimp, but the fish soon see to that the second it hits the water, so i divert their attention away with the tablet form then drop them into the artificial plants where my shrimp live.

It really is very, very easy to fall into the trap of over-feeding simply to watch them. If i have any visitors to the house planned, i wont feed them the day before..gives me great satisfaction to say "watch this now, i've not fed the gutsy little things for a couple of days"..

Terry.

i give my fish a varied diet of flake, sinking pellets, frozen and live foods and i often feed at night before i go to bed when the lights have gone off, to ensure those fish who are more active at night get a chance at some food.
