I am considering getting some guppies, but am aware of how much guppies, ahem, like other guppies

Would having a few males and no females be OK - or would that be very distressing to them or cause too much aggression? Obviously, I don't want to have miserable fish.
If not, then what on earth do people do with fifteen million gupppies a year (OK, OK, I know that's a slight exaggeration) ??

I can't imagine that as a beginner I would raise such gorgeous specimens that anybody else would actually want them. Besides which, won't they quite quickly become v inbred, with extra heads and no tails etc?
I don't even have a spare tank available to put the fry in ( and please don't suggest that I get one, I really can't spend any more of my family's disposable income on yet another fish tank right now  I think my family would lose the plot if I tried that )

Which brings me to another point - I have heard lots of people saying "Oh, get rid of/take back " X fish . Where?? Don't know anyone IRL who has fishies. Why would the lfs want my cast off fishies? (not that I have any right now ) Or is it quite normal for an lfs to take back stock?

TIA

Some stores do and some don't take fish. They may only give you a store credit though. You can leave the fry in with the parents and let nature do the rest. Guppies can and do eat their young. There is a buy sell swap section here you can offer them on too.; or you can offer them for free on a freecycle site near you.

Having males on their own should be fine. The aggression really starts when you have more males than females in a tank and they are all after the same gal. I will add though, that some males will try to mate with others if no females around and if so, the one being chased can get a bit stressed.
