I had gotten a feather duster on saturday night (monday now) and it has attached to a rock and doing great. but I noticed a long spider web like string floating from the 'tail' of the feather duster.

What is it?
Is it good?
Should I leave it?

Im assuming its sticky because bubbles are stuck to it.

o_O;

another question to add..

I noticed in my tank for the first time alot of really really tiny 'snails'.. I never got snails for the tank, but they are almost microsophic.. and they look like snails.

Are they snails?
Could they come from the feather duster or live rocks I brought home?

Do I get rid of them or keep them?

o_O

The worm (feather duster) may well be sendingout strands for feeding. These worms usually use their fans for catching food but they can also send out a sort of spider web like strand that is sticky. this catches passing food and once its full the worm simply reels the threads back in. Its harmless and wont do any harm except look a little messy every now and then.
The tiny snail like things could be a coupleof things... Copopods or Stomatella snails. Both are good things and are a sign that the tank is beginning to settle down. (They probably came in on the liverock)

Thanks, Nav. I was thinking the snails were parasites or something bad, lol. So they could've come with the feather duster?

There seems to be over 30 of them. I guess if they survive and grow big, I can get rid of them, I dont like snails because they spawn like crazy in my freshie, took forever to get rid of them all!

GreatLakes-- "Situation"? You make it sound like its a bad thing.. explain?

Salt water snails are not like freshwater snails. you NEED smails for marine tanks.

They are an extremely imporant member of the cleanup crew. I have roughly 40 snails in my tank and its stil nowehere near enough :*)

err.. another question regarding the featherduster...

it was kinda being... disgusting.. how can I put this without being offensive? (Sick mind running)

Part of its body (The end, not the head) was sticking out of the tube, pushing and rolling around. What is it doing? Is it moving itself around?
