This one is obriously pop eye cos it looks a bit like this fella  ! Its a breed of barb, but im not quite sure as i'm a newbie! I read somewhere that it can be caused by an air stone over oxtgenating the water, is this true?

Also would fin rot be blatently obvious. My other barb has a prfectly formed tail where as "popeyes" is slightly jagged kind of thing :/ ...

Someone help me please..

No, I have heard this all over for years, read it at many sites and find it rediculous to be honest. Popeye is usually the result of external damage to the eye... rubbing it on a rock or fish's spine etc. or bacterial infection. I would treat with an external anti-bacterial med. You don't give your location so I cannot suggest anything without knowing what is available to you but ask at your lfs.

Yes, fin rot is blatently obvious. It looks like the fins are shredded.

Yeah, sorry mate. i live in the UK. There are quite alot of helpful fish shops local to me. I think he's ok on the fin rot side of things in that case. after a recent water test at my lfs it was all good and i have done a partial water change (approx 50%). is it possible that in good conditions the popeye could heel naturally, or should i run him down the lfs.

Thanks for the quick reply..

Sometimes it heals on it own, maybe if it was caused by rubbing it against a rock or fin but if it's bacterial I wouldn't think it will. I wouldn't take any chances and get some meds. :)
